About
Cantor and singer. A young, fresh cantorial sound.
Yisroel Lesches is a cantor known for his modern, engaging approach to cantorial music, and noted for his signature style of floating vocals that are simultaneously light yet powerful.
Born in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by synagogues with first-class cantors and choirs, Yisroel received a background in cantorial music from an early age. In 2008 he began a decade of intense vocal study with acclaimed bel canto pedagogist Miriam Jaskierowicz Arman, recognized for her singular approach to vocal production.
Yisroel joined Manhattan's iconic Lincoln Square Synagogue in 2016 as Cantorial Intern, where he received private direction and guidance from the synagogue's distinguished Founding Cantor Sherwood Goffin, faculty member of the Belz School of Jewish Music at Yeshiva University.
In 2017, he was appointed Assistant Cantor of the Lincoln Square Synagogue.
As a cantor, Yisroel has led services at synagogues across the United States, services attended by thousands of people including New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and Bob Dylan.
He is currently producing a series of online content aimed at bringing modern cantorial music to a wider audience.
